With a coast extension of about 3.500 km, Vietnam bases a good part of its economy on the the sea. Nowadays from north to south more than 20 major commercial ports are active, managing huge volumes of goods coming in and going out from this very dynamic country. The shipbuilding industry is growing very fast becoming one of the main thrust to the whole national economy and in many coastal province fishing is still the main economic activity. Also the maritime tourism has grown fast during the last years in terms of quality and quantity of accommodation, services and attractions available in the several touristic areas on the Vietnamese coast. More and more tourist every year chose Vietnam as touristic destination not only for the historical heritage places but also for the beautiful landscape and amazing beaches they can find here.
Despite this fast developing of the maritime economy and tourism, in Vietnam the yachting industry is still sluggish. Unlike other regional countries, as Malaysia and Thailand, where maritime tourist and yachting industry development seems progressing together, in Vietnam is really very rare find a yacht. This seems to be a kind of paradox of this fast growing country where for sure are not missing rich people able (and willing) to buy the ultimate luxury toy like a motor-yacht or a pleasure sail boat!
Actually the delay on development of yachting in Vietnam has a quite important structural problem: the lack of infrastructure. Actually today many people would like to purchase a yacht or a small pleasure personal boat but the complete lack of supporting infrastructures like marinas and yacht clubs make this dream not possible. But today something is changing. The potential of special infrastructures for the maritime recreational industry has been well understood by both, private investors and local administrations and in order to develop the yachting industry the first marinas are under construction now in Da Nang, Nha Trang and Vung Ro (the first marina operative in Vientam is planned to be ready around middle of this year, it’s the Ana Marina, at the moment under construction in Nha Trang, http://www.ana-marina.com/ ).
Furthermore, many important new luxury residential project in construction today in the biggest city in Vietnam, include a private marina with a certain numbers of yacht berth available just nearby the villas or the luxury apartment (one example is the big luxury project VinHome Central Park in Ho Chi Minh City, http://vinhomescentralparkproject.com/ ).
Finally in the immediate future, the possibility to own and manage a personal boat will become real and accessible to many people and with the number of extremely high-end consumers available today in Vietnam, the market of luxury boat will have a real big potential in this country.
International yacht building operators are advised: start to look in this part of the world, which most probably will represent the next frontier of your commercial activity!
